Here is the culmination of a three piece study of renaissance arms and armour, in which my goal was to improve my skill and understanding of creating detailed hard surface assets predominantly using Zbrush. Aside from the characters head/facial hair, which used the awesome 3D Scan Store real time hair assets, everything was created using Zbrush for the high poly, retopology in Maya, bake and texture in Substance 3D Painter and rendered out in Marmoset. I used XGen to create the base for the horse hair before baking and using hair cards for the final piece. For the characters face I sculpted by hand before using zwrap to match the 3D Scan Store base mesh to the sculpt and project on their HD scan textures before tweaking and adding final touches on top.
You can find more in depth breakdowns for the hammer, armour and horse and barding in their own individual project sections on my profile. Hope you enjoy!
