This piece was inspired by medieval paintings of the Madonna - The glamour and gaud of Catholicism stripped back but with hints of the occult. Voodoo Chile's black eyes provide dark mirrors that reflect the emptiness at the heart of organised religions, the corruption of the institutions evident on her withered face. Her lips are pinned shut lest she mention the terrible deeds that have been comitted. The gold trinkets are the only thing she has to show for her faith but even they have a terrible price.
