King Rædwald (Realtime)

This is my attempt to visualise the 6th/7th century Anglo Saxon king or Braetwalda, King Raedwald, thought by most to be the occupant of the Sutton Hoo ship burial in East Anglia - more info here: https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/death-and-memory/anglo-saxon-ship-burial-sutton-hoo. I wanted to push my character creation skills all around and to try and imagine what a warrior king of the time may really look like without any idealisation. The accoutrements all have their own breakdowns on my portfolio if you want a closer look - this piece is focusing on the character as a whole.

This piece was created using Zbrush for the high poly, maya for retopology and unwrapping, substance painter for baking and texturing and marmoset for rendering. The hands and body shape are repurposed from base scans and the environment props are free scans from Sketchfab (apart from the actual ground) - everything else has been created from scratch. I used Marvelous Designer for the clothing and the awesome Texturingxyz mutlichannel smart material by https://www.artstation.com/felix3d/store for the base of the tertiary face details. The hair is strand based and was created using Xgen in Maya. I got a quick and dirty rig from Mixamo before being posing in Maya.

just over 150k tris for the character and weapons/armour minus the hair strands. 3x 4k texture sets, 2x 2k texture sets for the character himself.
